Not enough chocolate for icing recipe - HELP!

Recipe for yule log filling/icing calls for 175g dark chocolate. I have 125g.

Is there anything I can use instead? I have cocoa powder, and I have butter.

Or should I just scale down the recipe and make it a rather mean and thinly iced offering?

Fill with chocolate buttercream (if you have the sugar for that) and ice with the proper chocolate stuff?

What else is in it? Less chocolate might make it less likely to set.

Can you raid your DS treat cupboard and add some chocolate buttons or similar?

I'm sure the cocoa mixed with a little boiling water to make a paste, then mixed with soft butter, would work just as well.

I don't think you'd want to add water to the cocoa if you want to blend it into butter - it'd be immiscible wouldn't it?

What else is supposed to go into the real chocolate icing?

It's to fill and ice the Nigella yule log recipe

Don't have any buttercream and DS's treat box is empty Blush

Don't have any buttercream

does anyone have buttercream as such?

That recipe includes powdered sugar, ie icing sugar - so if you've got some of that spare, and butter and cocoa, you've everything you need to make chocolate buttercream.

But as the icing in that recipe is butter and sugar based anyway, then using what chocolate you've got plus some cocoa should work fine. Maybe about a tablespoonful mixed in with the sugar.
