Oven baked risotto enquiry

Mummy2Bookie · 10/12/2010 11:44

Is it simply bung everything ( including uncooked rice) in the oven?

What temp do I set the oven to and how long do I cook it for?
Also can I just use standard rice instead of risotto rice?

Thanks

You need risotto rice if you want risotto - the other grains don't swell and fatten in the same way. I know you can cook risotto in a microwave (bung in all ingredients, cover and cook on high for 10 mins, uncover, stir again and cook for a further 10). I expect in a conventional oven it might take a little longer though the covered / uncovered approach could work.

You need risotto rice.

Takes about 25 mins in my oven. I stick in frozen peas halfway through though which increases cooking time, I think.

I put my oven on about 180c.

It would depend what the other ingredients are.
You do need risotto rice though.

I use this Delia a lot.

I use this one from the bbc website

Thanks for the info. I will get risotto rice. I was asking about normal rice simply because I have loads of it and it's never used.
