I defrosted a pack of sausages today I had frozen a couple of weeks ago and just realised they are a pack of twelve.

I am only cooking for dh, me and dd (3) so wil have a lot of leftover sausages which I cant freeze.

Suggestions appreciated

sausage sandwiches all round

stillbobbysgirl · 09/12/2010 11:35

So 2 adults and 1 toddler would not eat 12 sausages between them?! Blimey - we must be really greedy in our house. There are 4 of us and there would not be any leftovers!

MarkStretch · 09/12/2010 11:37

Eat them cold straight out of the fridge slathered in salad cream. Mmmmmmmm.

If there were any left I would probably chuck them in a pasta with some veggies and a tomato sauce?

Get a dog.

TragicallyHip · 09/12/2010 11:38

Eat them cold with ketchup! Or sausage sandwich. Mmmm you've made me hungry Xmas Grin

make a nice toad-in- the-hole?

nice in pasta - especially with onion, tinned toms etc

in our house we would have definately scoffed the lot!

HouseOfBambooootiful · 09/12/2010 11:43

If you don't fancy eating them just as they are you could:

  • chop and put them in a potato salad type dish
  • if they aren't too greasy, chop and put them in a 'normal' salad
  • chuck them in just about anything you're cooking the next day - pasta sauce, chili, casserole...

I like sausages.

Can I reheat them tomorrow then and mix them up with some pasta?

Spanish-style omelette with chopped sausage is lovely.

GrimmaTheNome · 09/12/2010 11:47

Nothing, because DH would make them into sausage sandwiches before I got to them.

If perchance they survived him, I would indeed have them with pasta of some sort.

HouseOfBambooootiful · 09/12/2010 12:03

If you cover and refrigerate asap after they are cooked, then it should be okay to cook something with them again the next day. I would anyway.

I wouldn't keep leftovers from that meal though, as it's probably not good to keep reheating them.

Thanks everyone Smile

Thats two days dinner sorted with one pack of sausages!

Don't get it, why are you cooking them all? Just keep the uncooked ones in the fridge and eat them a few days later - no need to worry about reheating, things don't go off as soon as they are defrosted.

bytheMoonlight · 09/12/2010 12:23

Oh, I thought because they have been frozen for a couple of weeks they would need cooking as soon as they were defrosted

Nah. I do that all the time. Freezing kind of halts the going off process and it starts again when defrosted. Just eat them a few days later from raw.

EatingAngelPie · 09/12/2010 12:31

i'd look the other way, and turn back to find DH had eaten them.

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 09/12/2010 14:10

Cook them and then refreeze. You can only not refreeze if they are raw.
