end of my tether...any ideas??

dd is 20 mth, and has pretty much always been a good eater, brilliant at feeding herself...

the latest saga is not eating much at all then throwing her food all over the floor, have tried giving her nothing as a punishment (no dessert) and have tried giving alternatives...she is still doing it

any ideas?
anyone been/going through this?

TIA xxx

Let her eat what she wants and then remove food until next meal?

let her feed herself, but when she throws it on the floor say "NO" firmly to her and pick it up
if she does it again take all the food away

I agree with starlover - it sounds like she's really trying to exert her independence. Also, since she's getting in towards 2 years old eating becomes sporadic as far as how much is eaten at each mealtime. If she's throwing her food, maybe she's full?? Also, in my experience, giving alternatives all the time sends the message that what you gave initially isn't worth eating... I would give her one chance to not throw the food on the floor then take it away. Or even take it away once she's done before she starts throwing the food. If she is hungry later, you can give her a small portion of some finger food... Maybe instead of 3 larger meals a day try 6 smaller meals. Good luck figuring it out!

make sure you dont put too much on her plate. sometimes it can overwhelm them and they end up eating nothing. give her a very small portion, then give her more when she has finished. it also makes less mess when she does chuck it
