how big a turkey do i need?

i've got 6 adults and 2 children to feed on xmas day. how big a turkey will i need? i can't work it out

You can get away with a small turkey - it depends on if you are having a starter.

By the time you have pigs in blankets, sauagemeat stuffing, veg, spuds etc you really dont need a big one at all. Chicken portions will be tiny, being realisic 1 slice of breast and a picking of leg meat and thats plenty.

You could easily have a 12Ib.

If you like left overs then 14Ib.

Take into account size of oven 14Ib plus you could be stuck.

I'd recommend a smaller one if your on a budget rather than a bigger one thats tastless. Stictly speaking a larger turkey should be a male but your not going to get that from anywhere.
