How do I make a 'princess' cake for DD's party??

I was thinking about ramming a cheapo barbie doll in to the top of a cake made in a pyrex dish but they're all too tall - please help!

Stick the Pyrex cake on top of another cake made in a normal round tin of similar circumference, and carve to get a smooth outline. Repeat if necessary until it's tall enough to ram the Barbie into.

I pulled the legs off the doll. It didn't look out of proportion.

(Legs are back on now and doll is in the toy box!)

whatagradeA: what a good idea - I was going to suggest as a fallback slicing the doll off at the knees and presenting paralympian Barbie!

what about a castle(they're dead easy)? Just a square cake with upside down small ice-cream cones in each corner for turrets and stick chocolate bars/sweets on to make doors/windows. Fly a flag with a toothpick and place a small doll in the middle - Polly Pocket princess maybe?

I put a silver doily "skirt" around the waist of the doll to bridge the gap, then decorated the actual cake (made in a pudding basin/special tin with hole) with silver balls and icing flowers
