Ideas for a savoury gift please

Hi. I have a very elderly uncle, who is very kind to my DCs. I'm keen to make something for him with the DCs for Xmas, but he doesn't like sweet food (I found this out after having spent my whole childhood making him a fruit cake each year!). Does anyone have any ideas for savoury gifts? To make it even more of a challenge it needs to be sent through the post!
Many thanks

Hmm, the sending-through-the-post thing might be tricky - I was going to suggest making him some delicious little cheese biscuits like these. Not an insuperable problem, though, if you wrap them up really well in a tin and lots of bubble-wrap?

Alternatively, what about some spiced nuts? The dreaded Nigella has these which I have to admit do sound rather tempting (can you tell I'm a Nigellaphobe? Grin)

Does it have to be food? What about making him some art with the DCs? Someone posted a great idea on a thread a few days ago:

  • Buy a cheap canvas
  • Handprints of DC, glitter etc
  • Personalised message written by DC just for him

What about a nice Christmassy chutney?
