Its a chocolate, butter and sugar icing. Nigella recipe, it said to leave to cool and it will thicken. Is cool and still quite runny, have put in fridge but need it thicker now! Can't ice cake.

I'd add more icing sugar.

VivaLeBeaver · 27/11/2010 17:39

Thanks, hadn't thought of that. There isn't any icing sugar in it at all at the minute, its demara sugar (melted with the butter) but icing sugar would still be ok wouldn't it.

wisk it while it is cooling. Wisk the hell out of it. And add more icing sugar.

The butter and chocolate, once they cool and solidify again, will make it thicker.

Chocolate ganache is just melted choc + cream. The cream is what thickens it. So maybe try adding cream to yours?

no no decorhate, the chocolate solidifying ia what thickens it!

Don't add cream, juat wisk the hell out of it.

Is that the Devil's Food Cake recipe in her new book? I made this and found I had to mix in a bit of icing sugar to get it to thicken.

It was sitting on the side for a good couple of hours without thickening Hmm. I even tried the Paddington hard stare....

Cake was seriously good though.

It is the Devil's Food Cake. It actually went really thick i nthe fridge very quickly. Didn't need to add anything in the end, but thanks. Cake was lovely.
