I've ruined my cake!

Delia xmas cake has been in the oven for an hour and I have forgotten the butter! Is this salvageable? Am I dreaming or is it for the bin?

I think that you may need to re-do it.

I did this once when dd was 2 and talking 'at' me. I took it out of the oven after 2 mins and added the butter. It didn't work too well. After an hour, I wouldn't think it would have much chance.

It's not salvagable as a cake but I bet you could turn it into a christmas pudding thing, it depends on the texture of the end result.

I wonder if once it is cool you could crumble it up and soak it is brandy and use it to fill mince pies?

How exactly did you forget the butter though?!

Did you not cream it with the sugar and the eggs?

I put it on top of the radiator to soften and then forgot about it. I know, I am a complete muppet. And I was just saying today that I didn't seem to be suffering with pregnancy brain.
