Hi, i'm planning on having beef casserole on boxing day & i'd like some ideas for recipes. I was thinking of putting it in the slow cooker xmas morning, i'm out for the day. Is it necessary to fry the beef in flour? many thanks :)

I'm doing a beef and red wine casserole at the moment! But I have just ruined my xmas cake so maybe I am not the best person to dish out advice!
Think I have remembered to put the beef in...

Have a google for daube provencale - basically beef marinaded in red wine with carrots, shallots, bouquet garni, garlic. The following morning, the meat is strained off, fried, flamed with cognac, and the juices from the marinade added, and cooked slowly. It uses quite big cubes of meat that are cooked slowly until they are tender and melting.

Can't remember the full recipe, but that is the general idea.

I started making beef stew, then realised i didn't have any red wine - but there was bottle of mulled wine left over from the previous Christmas so used that instead. It worked really well.

I'll google that, thanks.
Beef in mulled wine, that's not a bad idea at all! Yum!
