QUICK SURVEY
Do you have a large free standing freezer, possibly in your utility room or the garage. One where you store larger quantities of frozen goods?

What percentage of your friends do you think have one?

You see I'm just considering a business idea but it revolves around selling larger quantities of delicious premium food to people who have access to a large freezer at home.

Many thanks.

MaryBS · 23/11/2010 09:07

Yes. No idea about friends.

Wordsonascreen · 23/11/2010 09:47

No
None of my friends do either.
My parents have a huge freezer stuffed with iceland prawn rings and those deep fried unidentifiable chewy oversalted party selections for special occasions (which never occur)

We do have a special beer fridge and a wine chiller

goodmanners · 23/11/2010 10:42

not a size so do i!!! Where? do you live there too?

notasize10yetbutoneday · 23/11/2010 11:53

Really?! I work in Thornmaby Place, right on Victoria Bridge overlooking the river. DH works at Teesdale Business Park ont he other side of the river. We live in Darlington. Whereabouts do you work? Its so true what they say about it being a small world.

notasize10yetbutoneday · 23/11/2010 11:54

Thornaby, not Thornmaby!

TrillianAstra · 23/11/2010 11:56

My mum does.

TrillianAstra · 23/11/2010 11:57

Wirdsonascreen has it - my mum has one but it is full of cheap icelandy things, not posh things.

People who can afford your premium stuff probably would buy it fresh or just buy a bit at a time, and not hoard it (unless they were preparing for zombies)

ninedragons · 23/11/2010 12:01

We do, but I don't think any of my friends do - small inner-city houses.

Ours is full of stuff that was reduced at the supermarket, and frozen leftovers.

We are scarily organised and are strategically emptying it over the next few weeks because we go shopping late on Christmas Eve when everything is reduced to pennies.

orangina · 23/11/2010 12:04

No. I am in London. Distinct lack of garage/outhouse in our flat. If I had a bigger freezer, I would fill it with all my woolens in an effort to beat the pesky MOTHS that I'm constantly battling with......

Borisismyhousespider · 23/11/2010 12:05

we have a fridge freezer, have lots of friends who live in countryside who have larger freezers that are seperate however (places like Yorkshire Moors so more likely to get snowed in!)

Ormirian · 23/11/2010 12:05

We have a chest freezer in the garage and a large fridge freezer in the kitchen.

TheEarthIsFlat · 23/11/2010 12:06

Larger than average, yes. West Midlands. Like some others who've already posted, it's to save us money so use it after batch cooking (mainly soup, dp eats everything else) or if stuff's being sold cheap in the supermarkets. It's a pain though - because it's big everyone just throws stuff in so nothing's where it's supposed to be. Next time will get a smaller one again and get good at cramming stuff in.

BiscuitNibbler · 23/11/2010 12:22

Yes, East Midlands.

However, I think most of us who have them use them to stock up on special offers and home-cooked leftovers, which is not the market for bulk premium food purchases.

goodmanners · 23/11/2010 13:03

We in ingleby, I work for the council and dh works in Darlo!

Funkychunkymunky · 23/11/2010 13:04

Yes West Yorkshire

goodmanners · 23/11/2010 13:04

Sorry that was for not size ten but I am on my phone sat in a car show room!

mumnerves · 23/11/2010 13:44

yes

gladis · 23/11/2010 14:31

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR ALL THE FEEDBACK. Probably the most interesting point is that people who have a large freezer, tend to be people who like to do home cooking or have vegetable gardens, live in country/by sea to put meat and fish in, or want to economise by buying specials in bulk and freezing them - which is as some point out, not really the people I am hoping to see to.

The premium product I had in mind are small homebaked pies, meat and vegetarian. The smallest ones are perfect as canapes for parties. The larger ones are perfect for children/husbands who come home from sport/in from the cold and want a really warming filling snack. Also possible as a family meal, but thinking more of husbands coming home late and wanting a tasty meal and other scenarios like that.

Yes.

Wordsonascreen · 23/11/2010 14:39

Sainsburys fresh section is stuffed to the gills with poncey pies (that you can easily freeze)

All my friends are on permenant diets.. a pie as a canape would induce horror (and vomiting later on)

You may have to rethink tbh.

starlingsintheslipstream · 23/11/2010 14:41

They sound yummy gladis. Have you thought about approaching farm shops to see if they'd stock them?

SpareRoomSleeper · 23/11/2010 14:44

Yes, I do. Im in lancashire, mum has huge one, shes in yorkshire. MIL and SIL have them too, they are also in lancashire.

solo · 23/11/2010 14:47

I have a large free standing freezer plus a large American fridge freezer. My Mum has a large chest feezer and a small fridge freezer, my brother as a smallish chest freezer, none of my friends have a separate large free standing freezer though...
