Baically I have no cream to make mushroom sauce as planed for tonight and can't be arsed to go out now, so if I soften some mushrooms in a frying pan and chuck them into a well seasoned white sauce with that be grim, it's to go with chicken

my mum does it and i think it is nice

it'll be fine, that's how I'd do a chicken and mushroom pie filling.

Is the white sauce already made? If not, I'd start by gently sauteeing some chopped onions or shallots in butter, with the mushrooms - add a little tarragon if you have it, then add the flour/milk as you do when making a white sauce. This way you'll get all the cooking juices from the mushrooms and onions incorporated into the sauce. I might also add a clove of finely chopped garlic too.

Fry the mushrooms first like BIWI says

Meant to say I make it like BIWI does.
