What spices would you put in hawthorn jelly?

We saw a woman picking hawthorns today and now we are all keen to make hawthorn jelly. She said hers was better when she put spices in it but I can only find very simple recipes which don't include spices.

What might work?

apparently it is traditionally served with pheasant and pork, if that's any help.

Bay, clove, cinnamon, juniper perhaps?

mmm. Traditional English spices, basically.
thanks tb.
