Has anyone ever made piccallili?

I was thinking of making some this Christmas, always goes down well with my dad (the shop bought variety that is) so I thought I'd try my hand. Found a recipe on Deliaonline but it does sound really long winded.

My father used to make it and we all used to beg him not too!

The end result was fine, but the brining smelt awful and the cooking process stank the house out.

If you have somewhere to do the brining - garage maybe - out of the house, you will only have one smelly day of cooking it.

With a powerful extractor I think your house will smell ok again by, say, Easter
