Want to make a recipe that calls for cornmeal, what is this? Thought it might be American for cornflour but I'm not sure?

Cornmeal is also known as maize meal. It is not cornflour - the americans call cornflour 'cornstarch'.

It is what polenta is made from - you could use this in your recipe, or look out for maize meal (I got some in a healthfood shop).

It comes as fine or coarse ground, so make sure you know which one you want - more likely to be fine ground, I'd say.

it is very fine semolina, you can buy it in Tesco in thw world food section, labelled cornmeal or maizemeal.
