your best tips for cinder toffee please

just made my first ever batch, was good fun, but, it's stuck to the greaseproof paper, and has a bitter aftertaste (i overdid it a bit and it's slightly burnt). good thing is it is quite crunchy, not too chewy.

any tips for getting it right?

When you're testing to see if it's at the hard ball stage, take the pan off the hob so that it doesn't continue cooking.
