Cupcake & Icing help

I have another thread over in Recipes asking for dessert recipes for a friends bonfire party tomorrow night - but I know what I want now Grin

I want to make cupcakes, that have icing on top piped to look like a bonfire, with little twigs underneath it made from maybe broken flake pieces or chocolate matchsticks Grin

...How do I do that then? Blush

Complete baking novice - I can do the basics, but if anyone could give me a foolproof basic cupcake recipes, plain or chocolate, and explain what I'd need to do the icing on top and get the right colouring then that'd be brilliant :)

Thanks!

I'd make chocolate icing - probably ganache or butter icing. Then def use chopped matchstick chocolates and stick them around it.

You could always use maybe orange butter icing and then cover with the matchsticks to give illusion of flames. (ooh then you could use orange flavoured chocolate matchsticks!)

Nigella's butter icing is 700g icing sugar to 300g softened butter with a touch of vanilla flavouring and a touch of milk to soften it up.

MMMM - what a fab idea though :)
