Are you dry roasting and if not what oil/fat are you using?

foxinsocks · 31/10/2010 20:22

It does to mine too

Is the fat spitting

Only thing that stops it, is covering the chicken in foil. I do it loosely so it doesn't touch the skin but goes over it and then tucks in under the pan

You need to uncover it a bit at the end to crisp up the skin

i do cover it with foil and don't use any fat at all

Mine gleams, then I cook a chicken and its filthy again with smoke bellowing out.

Would love to know why as well.

foxinsocks · 31/10/2010 20:30

Have you checked where the smoke comes from? (element, door, fan etc)

southeastastra · 31/10/2010 20:44

from the top definitely i suppose i could put the chicken in a pyrex dish type thing, but they never get brown that way

Your oven sounds like mine. Mine isn't huge and I think even small things tend to spit on the top, especially when grilling (which then makes it smoke).

Have you tried putting it on the lowest level of the oven possible?

southeastastra · 31/10/2010 20:49

it's really frustrating oven is quite new too

Try using a terracotta chicken brick to roast a chicken. It will be enclosed, but still turn out lovely and golden. Habitat used to sell them, but don't know who does now.

Just checked - amazon do

Wow tb - wish I had the money for one of those, they look fab! Can you do a trivet vegetables underneath for a gravy?
