Frozen meat - how long do you keep it for?

I mean fresh stuff that you have frozen not things that are bought frozen.

I am always worried about keeping it too long as it always says use within a month on the packet but surely it should last longer than this?

I want to use some bacon that I froze (and forgot about) in July - will it be ok?

I hope so. I tend to buy any meat that is reduced or on special and freeze it. When we left Swizerland I defrosted the freezer and we ate a chicken that had been in there for two and a half years.

Cured meats tend not to last as long as uncured - the salt affects the taste of the fat after a while.

As in it just not tasting as good or not being ok to eat?
