Freezing something that's been in the fridge for a few days

I have two joints of rolled beef brisket in the fridge. Bought them last Tuesday. Use by date is Tues 26th Oct. The occasion I bought them for didn't happen and I don't want to cook them today. Do you think I can freeze them? Obviously they've been in the fridge the whole time.

Help please!

If they smell ok, which they should, I would think it is fine.

Yes freeze them it will be fine - they'd've stayed in the refrigerated unit in the butchers/supermarket anyway.

I'm sure they'll be fine. If you hadn't bought them, they'd have been sat in the fridge in the shop, and if you bought them today, you'd still freeze them.

Go for it.

Yes I would freeze them.

I work on the basis that if something would be ok to eat then it is ok to freeze. I always defrost and use things straight away, never take them out of the freezer and leave them in the fridge again for a day or two.

My freezer is a time machine - everything comes out exactly as fresh as it went in. Currently it is ok to eat today or tomorrow. If you put it in the freezer now then whenever you take it out it will be ok to eat 'today or tomorrow' (or longer based on a sniff test).

Thanks everyone for your speedy responses.

Off to put them in the freezer Smile
