How to get a crispy skin on a chicken.

I'm roasting a chicken tonight, chicken with 40 gloves of garlic, and I'd appreciate any tips regarding how to get a crispy skin, and how to keep the meat juicy.

Unfortunately I don't have a lemon, and I'm too lazy haven't the time to go out and get one.

Should I rub it with butter or olive oil?

TIA.

I rub with oil and sprinkle on salt or stock granules.
pre-heat the oven as hot as it goes.
put the chicken in on highest heat for about 20 min then reduce temperature to 150degrees celsius and cook 20 min per 500g bird. baste every 15 min or so with the juices.

First of all, I heat the oven on full whack, then I rub a little oil all over the chicken and then rub in salt, black pepper and dried thyme. When the oven's hot I put the chicken in for 15 minutes then take it out, baste it once, reduce the heat to 190 and put it back in the oven (taking about 25min off total cooking time).
Buon appetito.

i mix a good quality stock cube with a little olive oil and smear it all over the bird

Thankyou all for the tips. The skin is crisping up nicely.
