Nigella - spaghetti with Marmite ?!?! Have you tried it?

Well, after seeing this on Nigella t'other night, was wondering if it is one of her foul or one or her fab ideas?

She has done some revolting things in the past - chritmas pudding truffles spring to mind - but is this nice?

I used to eat spaghetti with marmite when I was an impoverished student. Delicious! Hope she's not passing it off as her idea Grin

We had it yesterday with DD and quite liked it! I do love marmite though.

maduggar · 16/10/2010 19:31

I saw this and I am tempted to give it to the kids - nice & easy dinner!

BelligerentGhoul · 16/10/2010 19:32

It sounds repulsive. What does it involve?

BessieBoots · 16/10/2010 19:34

Oh, it's lovely! Just melt a bit of butter and a bit of marmite, and stir it into spaghetti. It essentially acts like beef stock. We put peas and sweetcorn in with it and cheese on top.

Maria2007loveshersleep · 17/10/2010 11:51

I think it's much the same as butter & marmite sandwiches, doesn't sound so weird to me. But haven't tried it yet, will do so soon. Although I'm not English, I like marmite.

SixtyFootGhooool · 17/10/2010 11:54

Oh my sounds fab, i love marmite.

Hardandsleazy · 17/10/2010 12:02

Unbelievably nice- even dh liked it and he isn't keen on marmite. Dd didn't tho...

BarringtonWomble · 17/10/2010 12:04

I like spaghetti and marmite but I'm having a job thinking of them together.

Mind you I said that about the coca cola ham and we love that.

Nigella does seem to be coming out with some odd things in this series though. That pizza she did the other day looked horrible.

What else is in this? Sorry haven't watched this programme yet.

SeriousWispaHabit · 17/10/2010 12:08

DD1 is eating it now with cheese on top. Tasted some and is v nice. Would have it as quick dinner.

BelligerentGhoul · 17/10/2010 18:44

Ugh. I had a quick look through the book in Waterstones today and wasn't at all taken by it.

Has anybody noticed, too, how many meals she suggests which don't actually involve any vegetables?

RockBat · 17/10/2010 18:51

I've been making this for nigh on twenty years. Is gorgeous and a very nice, quick comfort dinner.

MimieD · 17/10/2010 19:53

I hate marmite and won't be making this but just wanted to add that this is not one of her own recipes...it's from Anna Del Conte, another food writer.

4merlyknownasSHD · 19/10/2010 16:56

I don't think I will be trying it as I don't like Marmite. That said, a spoonful of Marmite in porridge is great.
