Sainsbury's today. Has anyone tried them? They look weird and not sure kids will go for them. They claim they are natural Hmm, but I'm guessing they've crossed them with beetroot. Can't be a real purple potato? Encourage me please!

Here

Completely natural it seems :) they look interesting! Once you get past the 'Err, my spud is purple' mindfuck, it'll probably be lovely!

A quick google throws up a gratin recipe and will probably go down better the first time round than a purple roast potato on Sunday would Grin

Let me know how they are!

They are real!

I have grown them for a bit of fun before - some varieties only have purple skins, others are bluey-purple all the way through.

Have you even seen Pink Fir Apples? Fully grown ones look like a giant's gnarley hands! Grin

DH bought some this week - he is on a health kick. Boiled, they went all slimy, and mashed they tasted odd. I don't think we will bother again.

Pink fir apple potatoes, now, are delicious!

Thanks SWBL, tried the gratin recipe (despite the 'where's the cheese?' comment). Not great, probably the colour. Cooked to purply brown mush. Didn't have enough cream to add either.

So..... will stick to regular spuds I think!
