2.265kg pork stuffed shoulder-how to cook?

monkeysmama · 13/10/2010 15:21

I have a 2.26kg stuffed pork shoulder to cook for 6 of us this evening but it doesn't have any cooking instructions on it and I have no idea time / temperature.

I'd be really grateful for any advice.

TIA.

kerrist, get it on now!!!

high heat (220) for half an hour and then low heat (160) for long as you can. needs long slow cooking this.

monkeysmama · 13/10/2010 15:25

Oh really. Oh no. How long shall I plan for it to be on 160 for? Thanks!

I don't know how big 2.2kg is to look at (I go by sight) but I usually do pork shoulder for at least 4 hours, as sophable says it needs long cooking time on a low heat to make it tender.

2.7kg recipe on bbcgoodfood says 3.5 hours

monkeysmama · 13/10/2010 15:30

Thanks again. have just put it in on 200 for half hour and will then turn down a bit and see what is happening in a few hours. Pleased I asked now. 'Tis for in laws.

longer the better i would imagine...anything from 3 hours minimum up to 6!

Buy a meat thermometer if you're not sure. These are the hardcore ones.
