over set marmalade

Just made a batch of marmalade of the 'Oxford' type. It tastes great but is really over set to the point that it actually bends a metal knife! It is more like tar-malade.
Any cure for this? Or do I just accept that it is a disaster?

Stick it back in the preserving pan. Wash and resterilise jars. Add boiling water until it is the consistency you like. Repot.

Thank you, taffetacat- it has turned out just right.
Now to wash-up...
