From scratch, by hand and everything!

It is delish. Bit salty, but the texture is great.

And that's it. Sorry to come on and gurn about it, but DH's whole family are bakers and chefs, so he is being supportive but keeping a sense of proportion, the sod, having seen bread before.

But I am normally shit at cakes etc and am so v pleased with myself.

Ah! I remember when DH made his first loaf of bread. He was as proud as if he had produced a baby! It was a special day for him.

Well done! DP and I hardly ever buy bread because we both bake (well ok, him more than me).

Right, second lot of dough is in the fridge to ferment overnight! ["get me" emoticon]

I could get seriously addicted to this...

Congratulations! Grin

I made biscuits (with dinosaur cutters) with DS for the first time since I was a child last week. They came out OK, but I was delighted anyway!

openerofjars · 11/10/2010 00:42

Oh, ace! Where did you get the cutters from? I haven't made biscuits for ages and think DS (nearly 2) would love that.

TK Maxx, but it was a few weeks ago, I don't know if they'll still have them now.

lowrib · 11/10/2010 11:01

Here they are - isn't the internet great Grin

Cookie Cutters www.cakescookiesandcraftsshop.co.uk/acatalog/Dinosaur-Cookie-Cutters.html

We've got these ones

It was a bit hard to make all the shapes come out properly - but I think that might be to do with the kind of biscuits I made (shortbread) rather than the cutters. The brown one (is it a brontosaurus?) was the easiest.

I like them because they're colourful and they don't have sharp edges so it's fine for DS to handle them.

oops let me try that first link again!

openerofjars · 11/10/2010 12:55

Thanks for the link! I am torn between getting them now to make dino biscuits for his bday party and getting them as a stocking filler.

Ooh decisions decisions! Smile

FWIW DS (22 months) has really enjoyed making dino biscuits with me.

Thanks :)

Openerofjars, I noted your bit about your first loaf being a bit salty. Just cut down the amount of salt you put in. Try cutting it in half for your next (3rd?) loaf and then guage it from there. I have just made a loaf that was salt free (by mistake) and my dd thought it was wonderful. I must admit I thought it a bit bland, but I usually use half the recipe amount of salt and it tastes fine. I use 1 tsp for 700gms flour.
