No idea what I am doing....I have some "cook from frozen" fish and some potatoes. I would like to cook a fish pie but have no idea what to do!

Any ideas or help appreciated!

Thanks

I often make this for DH and DD. Generally I use frozen fish and a packet of seafood. I make a cheese or white sauce, put the fish into it in a dish and put mashed potato on top. they both really like it. I have a cheese sandwich.

I totally recommend Jamie Olivers fish pie - so simple & easy and yet the best ive tasted!

madug beat me to it.

It really is amazing, and so low on washing up it's just joy to make.

So pleased to see this thread as all my fish pie recipes use fresh fish and I also have a load of frozen. So do you defrost the fish if using Jamie or MPW recipes or just chuck it in frozen? If so, do you chop it up?

I'm another Jamoe Oliver fish pie fan. Love it and you've just given me an idea for the family visit Sunday lunch this weekend. I'd defrost for the Jamie one. Fish doesn't take long to defrost in the fridge. Use straight away.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 07/10/2010 10:15

I'd defrost for Jamie's pie too.

Thanks guys. We are currently in quarentine as DS has chicken pox and I have all the ingredients for coolacumbers suggesgtions. Will def try the Jamie one though soon.

Will the fish thaw in time for tea time?

Using cheap fish is great for fishpie - the value packs are ideal - defrost for about 6 hrs. I agree JO fishpie is an absolute winner. I always add raw king prawns too. I disagree with him serving with baked beans, yuk - always peas or fine green beans.

I usually mix the fish, smoked (undyed) haddock mixed with either cod or a cheap white fish or sometimes salmon.

Fish pie is just fish in a white sauce topped with mashed potato cooked in the oven

It can be as simple or complicated as you like.

I use half smoked fish and half white fish in mine. I also add frozen peas.

Most important thing for me is the quality of the fish, and don't overcook it before it goes in the oven.
