emergency chutney question

am currently making the bbc good food classic apple chutney. it is my first time making it and it is very liquidy. should i continue simmering it for longer than the 40 min stated?

I would, if it is very runny. I simmer mine until I can part it in the pan with a wooden spoon. (The spoon leaves a clear path behind it for an instant before the chutney runs back in.)
