Cakes and scone recipes with no egg

It's my little boy's second birthday, and we are going to do a little party and invite his friends. Thing is, he is allergic to both eggs and nuts, which means I'll need to bake the birthday cake (egg free) and I was planning on also having some scones with cream and jam, and a cheese board.

So, I am an ok cook but I don't bake a lot. Do you have any easy, fool proof and delicious cake and scone recipes to share? Milk, cream and butter are not a problem. Savoury scones welcome too.

Thanks!

Google vegan cake recipes. These chocolate cupcakes are very good.

WafflingOn that recipe looks GOOD! Pacita I always make egg free cakes and all you do is add baking powder and bicarb of soda to yr fave recipe instead of eggs and beat well with electric whisks.

thank you thank you ladies! I have never made scones, so I did not realise they don't actually need eggs - this is what I meant when I said I don't bake a lot!

ppeatfruit great tip - how much bicarb and baking powder would that be? And are those combined?

Oh, and believe me, I've googled A LOT. But I found it hard to get a sense of what is going to turn out good or just rubbish, so hence my asking for MNetters tried and tested recipes.

Crazy Cake uses vinegar (use white wine vinegar) and bicarb to rise.

My dd1 is allergic to eggs. I've had no success with the vinegar/oil/bicarb method.

After much Googling I found a recipe that uses condensed milk. It rises really well and is rich and perfect for a special occasion.

The one on the egg free baking site worked best.

Hope this helps.

substitute the egg in scones for plain yogurt.

For dd's birthday I also did a large round of shortbread topped with good strawberry jam, cream and strawberries. I did it at the last minute and was a bit dubious about it but it was a bit hit - every bit was eaten in minutes.

My dd is 4 now and for her last birthday she really wanted a proper cake etc like she has seen at parties and I was able to do it with the recipe I linked to.

Chocolate Krispie cakes, rocky road bites and flapjacks are all egg free recipes.

Krispies made with white chocolate and a bit of golden syrup are nice too (you can add fruit if you want to nod in the direction of healthinessGrin)

This is an excellent banana cake recipe, I just put an extra banana instead of the egg.

oopsandbabycoconuts · 02/10/2010 20:36

I use silken tofu - for every egg the recipe calls for add 1oz of silken tofu.

So I use 6oz pure spread, 3oz silken tofu, 6oz caster sugar, 6 oz self raising flour and half a tsp baking powder. Beat pure, tofu and sugar together until fluffy then sift in the flour and bp. bake in 170 degree oven for 20mins.

Thanks again - keep them coming!

Both times I have made this cake people have raved about it. It's lovely and moist.
