I am weaning 7mth old and would like to use stock. I don't want to make my own so anyone know if I can buy unsalted stock.

Thanks

you can buy low-salt stock in health food shops - this was the best i could find when weaning ds.

Kallo do unsalted veg stockcubes I think. Available most supermarkets probably.

SleepySuzy · 07/09/2005 19:46

Kallo foods do a low salt one

Eaney · 07/09/2005 19:46

Great will have a look tomorrow. Do you think I'm lazy not making it?

You probably don't want to hear this (I didn't when I was weaning!) but stock can be easy to make. I only make chicken stock and only when we've had a roast. I put bones + peeled carrot + onion + clove + few peppercorns + celery (if I have it) in large pan, cover with cold water and boil. Simmer uncovered for 3 hours, drain and keep in fridge. Skim off the fat next morning and you're done. I just put it on whilst doing the washing up, set the timer so I don't forget and disappear to watch telly or have a bath.

OK. Can you do it with just Veg. Don't usually have full chicken. Would it take as long?

3hrs - thats what puts me off.

Yes, you can do it with just veg, and yes, it does take just as long (sorry!)

sweetkitty · 07/09/2005 19:53

I used the Kallo ones for DD, theres less salt in them than things like cheese you can give babies at 6mo.

i couldnt find those kallo stock cubes in tesco, sainsburys, morrisons or asda fwiw!

Seona1973 · 08/09/2005 13:30

our local (quite small) Co-op sells them if you have any near you. Also some supermarkets have a seperate organic food section and you might find them there rather than with the other stock cubes. They are kallo organic low sodium vegetable stock cubes.

Niddlynono · 08/09/2005 13:36

You should be able to get the Kallo stock cubes in health food shops too.

starlover · 08/09/2005 13:37

make your own. it's so easy!

dizzydo · 08/09/2005 14:04

You could invest in a slo cooker then you can just leave it overnight to cook and you dont have that wiffy boiled stock smell around the house. Slo cooker also great for meals with hardly any effort.

i use the kallo low salt stock powder in a tub. its delicious and can be bought from tescos, waitrose and perhaps some sainsburys otherwise health shops do it.
