AFTER SCHOOL SNACKS - WHAT DO YOU GIVE THEM?

I'm always wondering what to do for the best at this time of day. DDs are always starving when they come out of school so I never know if it's best to get organised and give them their evening meal early - then they are pretty guaranteed to clear their plates . They are free to have whatever they like after that.
Mine usually have a bag of crisps or bag of sweets - occasionally I can get a piece of fruit into them.
Just interested to hear what ideas you peeps have out there.

This is going to be a problem for me too if ds1 is ravenous. If I give him food at 4pm he'll not eat a meal. I can't really do a meal though as ds2 and ds3 wouldn't eat this early. I'm loathe to cook dinner 3 times a night!!!

Actually, if ds1 has school meals so has had a hot meal, I can just give him sandwiches, fruit, yog, scones, muffins etc when he gets in and then maybe toast or something later. He could have a meal with the others later if he wants it and not if he doesn't...

All these healthy people. @ my sweets and crips.

One of the parents at dds school meets her son every day with a packet of sweets. It's got to the stage where he looks for them before he even says hello to her

we get home at about 3.10 when she has one or two of the following:
fruit leather
a piece of toast
a couple of biscuits
an apple or a peach or some strawberries
a peperami stick
a little cake
today there will be an ice lolly

I give her her proper tea at about 4.30 and she usually wolfs the lot

then she has some toast and cocoa at about 6 ish before bath

kid · 07/09/2005 14:25

carrots, it takes them ages to nibble through them and gives me some time to get on with the dinner (in peace)

clary · 07/09/2005 14:27

we don?t get home till 3.45 so I start on tea then and they have it about 4-4.15pm. If they want more at 6pm then they can have some fruit or bread.
Lots of parents at our school greet the kids with a bag of choc buttons, then wonder why they won?t eat their dinner!

littlesteppers · 07/09/2005 14:29

cheeses strings and glass of water or fruit and a drink,

usually do tea at 4;30

SPARKLER1 · 07/09/2005 15:48

Well we've gone even healthier today: NOT

Chocolate cake bar
ritz cracker biscuits
orange squash

me: - orange squash and a cake bar
(the wine in the fridge is calling me but it's a bit early and I have to drive somewhere later
