Husband driving me mad

My DH is driving me mad. Every time I suggest putting something in the freezer - a loaf of bread, a chicken etc - he says 'things never taste the same after they've been frozen. This is clearly crap. Isn't it? I love freezing things, from milk to spag bol to muffins to pretty much everything I think we might not get through. Does he have a point that putting a fresh chicken in the freezer, then defrosting it and eating later will affect the flavour?

LOL I was expecting this to be a thread about the different ways you could cook him.

I suppose some things aren't as good, but they are mainly things that aren't supposed to be frozen, like some fresh herbs for example.

We freeze milk, bread, fruit, you name it. I do, however, draw the line at cake. Cake must be fresh.

D'ye know what? I agree with him.

I think meat changes in texture and taste quality once frozen.

Bread is shite from the freezer.

I only use mine for emergency veg, lollipops and ice for my gin.

Well my DH thinks things go off the same as if they were in a fridge for example i pulled out some mince with the date two weeks before and he threw it out (we are not poor, we don't need to eat off food)

Stews, Spag Bol, Curries etc definitely IMPROVE with freezing.

MoonFaceMama · 28/09/2010 22:26

lol at your dh mrspear! Grin

Some veg is better frozen as it is frozen much fresher than you will ever find it in the shops (peas, sweetcorn, broad beans)

Defrosted cake better than stale. Ha. Like cake gets stale in our house!

thank you people - i laughed at the thought that i might cook my husband, taffetacat. some days, this does not sound like such a bad idea.

I didn't know you could freeze milk. Surely that can't taste the same? I regularly freeze bread as I buy in bulk and it tastes the same to me when defrosted

BuntyPenfold · 29/09/2010 11:35

I have frozen milk for years; it looks yellow in a see through container, but goes white again on thawing.
It tastes exactly the same to my family.

TrillianAstra · 29/09/2010 11:37

Bunny you should keep your gin in the freezer, not just ice! (as you clearly have plenty of room)
