How do you cook gammon hock?

What's the best way? And what do you eat it with?

Soak it to get salt out.
Then I do mine in slow cooker but hob would be fine.Made thi recipe up but here goes:
Fry onions(or leeks)&garlic. Add red lentils&chopped carrots&veg stock&ham hock. I also put in a parmesan rind for added flavour and take it out at the end.
Cook for hours (?how many on hob but all day in slow cooker). Till meat is soft.
Blend the lentils/veg bit&add shredded ham bits.
Seasoning depends on your taste/kids etc.
Crusty bread and you have a meal.
