How long does your oven take to heat up to 200C?

OK it isn't strictly a food related question.... but my new AEG oven is taking about 15mins, which is too long IMO! It is a pain and adding to my overall food preparation time at the time of day when every minute counts for feeding hungry kids.

Is this really abnormally long (old one was a gas fan oven and much faster) or am I just impatient?

i dunno but it always seems like forever. got to be at least 10 minutes i think

thisisyesterday · 14/09/2010 22:11

my oven was the cheapest double oven i could get tho

Daffodilly · 14/09/2010 22:18

I thought maybe it just 'felt' ages, but then I timed it and it IS ages!

15 minutes? Envy

Mine takes an hour. Seriously. I bought a thermometer to check it. Drives me mad.

MrsRhettButler · 14/09/2010 22:22

mine does it in 5 mins

its a fan assisted electric one if that helps

Daffodilly · 14/09/2010 22:24

Oh... get you MrsRhett - what brand is it?

Purpleturlte - guess that proves that there really is always someone worse off!

lol doubt thats true for porpleturtle though Grin

mines a DeLonghi

purpleturtle · 14/09/2010 22:26
Grin

I hate it. It comes with the house, and is great in that it has a 6 ring hob. Looks very flash. But the oven is one massive space to heat up, even electric and fan-assisted. So it takes an age.

And so I do a lot less baking than I'd like, and find that I have to forward plan even simple things like bunging a pizza in. Sad

MrsRhettButler · 14/09/2010 22:27

sorry, *purple

Not timed it but i reckon about 10 mins. I normally put it on before peeling spuds or something then it is ready when i need it.

Daffodilly · 14/09/2010 22:30

I have a friend who "doesn't believe" in pre-heating her oven. Perhaps I should just adopt that strategy.

Daffodilly, I inherited an AEG oven with house and it takes about 15 mins to heat up, it is a right pain. I have noticed that there seem to be vents or gaps (prob bits fallen off) at the top and bottom of the door- water/condensation drips on to the floor so I don't think that would make the oven very efficient. Friend's mum had an AEG too and she said it was awful and replaced it. Wish I had the £ to do the same...

DontCallMeBaby · 14/09/2010 22:54

I aways think that the fan oven takes about ten minutes, and that it's quite quick. The conventional oven doesn't heat up at all, and trips the circuit breaker if you try it ... I think this would qualify as worse than the hour-long wait, were it not for the other oven!

Daffodilly · 15/09/2010 19:43

Yes our AEG drips condensation onto the floor too! Rather wishing I'd gone for a different make now. But it isn't really like a pair of shoes that you can try before you buy is it!

Mine does it in less than 5 minutes, but it has got a fast heat thingy?? Once its heated up you turn it to normal fan oven! Love it! Wink

MrsJohnDeere · 15/09/2010 21:22

15-20 mins for the top oven (not fan assisted).
About 3 weeks for the bottom fan assuaged oven (so we only use it for low temp stuff).

MrsJohnDeere · 15/09/2010 21:23

Assisted (damned predictive text on phone)

MaMoTTaT · 15/09/2010 21:24

purple - yours didn't take an hour for me! I was quite surprised, was definitely less than 1/2hr.........and then I managed to burn my arm on your thermometer Blush

Daffodilly · 15/09/2010 21:25

Wah...I want a fast heat setting. What make is yours mummytowillow?

I want purples oven actually - so much space on the hob for doing stuff, and loads of space in the oven.

I covetted her clothes airer as well when I was there and came home and bought one identical Grin

undercovamutha · 15/09/2010 21:31
