we have got in a meal rut ...

yesterday ds2 complained that meals seemed like they were coming round again too often

I've been doing a 2-weekly menu plan but it obviously needs refreshing

at the moment we have tacos, chilli & salad, spaghetti w. tom sauce, veg curry, dhal & rice, veg & tofu stir fry with noodles, veggie sausages, new potatoes & veg, veg kebabs with halloumi & salad, roasted veg tart one week and broccoli pasta, lentil hotpot, thai curry, paella, macaroni cheese, omelette & salad, nut roast & roasted veg the following week

so ... put me out of my menu-planning misery :)

Sounds like you already have quite a bit of variety. Sometimes I find that just small changes can mix things up a bit. So instead of tacos, do fajitas. Instead of pasta, do a risotto. Maybe serve your curry with chappatis rather than rice. Not big changes but doesn't feel like you're doing exactly the same all the time.

I agree with happysmiley's suggestion about the small changes. Other ideas:

pesto with pasta or gnocchi
falafels with salady bits and pitta
spag bol
veggie sushi
stew with dumplings, or topped with a crumble
baked potato and toppings
home made baked beans

Lovesdogsandcats · 13/09/2010 23:14

Some of our staples:

Veggie mince & potato savoury pie with mash&veg
mung bean cottage pie
polenta with tomato sauce
couscous with roasted vegetables
beany veg casserole with herby dumplings
veggie mince meat(less) balls with pasta
pizza with mushrooms/red onion/Cheezly
hummous and salad and pitta bread

thanks everyone

we have tried a lot of those suggestions before, but my problem is there are very few things which all three of them like ...

ds1 and dd love ratatouille, ds2 acts like you're trying to poison him, both ds2 and dd love beany veg stew with dumplings, ds1 thinks it's the devils' work

I've now got to the stage where I think they're ridiculously spoilt and when you consider what most people's staple diets have consisted of for thousands of years my dc don't realise how lucky they are

will make a few small changes though and see if that heads off complaints for a while Hmm

Can I make a suggestion of nut roast? I love this but as the only one, I seldom make it.
Creamed leeks are the ambrosia of the gods and go really well with it.

Your 2 week menu sounds brilliant. maybe you could cheer your ds2 up with some fancy puddings but I wouldn't change a thing.
