Icing cakes- help needed please!

I'm not sure if I'm thinking of the right type of icing, there are so many different ones and I'm getting confused. I need to make some nipples for some boob cakes for a LLL meeting. Is royal icing the best thing? I don't want to use marzipan in case anyone is allergic. I'm going to ice the cakes with normal icing and then put the nipples on top.

I'm planning on making my own royal icing (using egg white powder) because I need such a small amount. Should I just save myself the trouble and buy it or is it easy to do?

Try looking up a recipe for fondant icing - it's more mallable (a bit like playdoh)

how long have you got?

buy some flesh coloured ready to roll icing stick it onto the cake with buttercream

then put a tiny bit of pink/brown food colouring in it (depending on nipple colour desired) and roll out a flat bit to make the areola (sp?) cut with the thing you would use for mince pies/jam tarts, then roll a cylinder shape and stick it in the middle with little balls of the paste stuck round to make the lumpy bits on a nipple.

sugarpaste sticks to itself easily with a dab of a water so you shoudl't need any thing else.

Does that make any sense at all??

just thinking if that doesn't work out you could make fab cupcakes with nips on the top

Brilliant, thank you both for your ideas. I think I will buy the icing, just in case it goes tits up (boom boom). I need to make them for a week today but I think I will make the cakes in advance and freeze them so I'm not rushing.

Stanton, that sounds like a fab idea, people will marvel at my boob cakes
