Questions about chocolate fountains

Dd would like to put a chocolate fountain on for her birthday.

Does anyone have one and what do you serve with it? How much chocolate do you have to put in to get it going?

Ours needs at least 800g of chocolate and a slug of oil depending on the type of chocolate used. It suggests that you melt the chocolate in the microwave first.
Serve mini donuts, strawberries and marshmallows for a truly sickly experience.
We've only had ours on once because it's really not worth the palaver unless there's at least 8 people.
Absolute nightmare to clean after.

That's what I thought, 800g is a lot of chocolate in one go so might have to review the menu/party idea as she was only going to invite 4 girls.

Might do raclette instead!

Eeewww I have a massive aversion to them because of the oil, cheep chocolate double dipping issues.

Also how old is your Dd? You sure your house wouldn't end up looking like the inside of Augustus Gloop's pocket.
