Red wine vinegar

Can I substitute it for white wine vinegar, or something else, in a recipe for stroganoff?

Yes, sure you can - it's just to give a bit of zing/tartness/acidity so any vinegar (maybe not a real agesd balsamic as they are pretty sweet) would do, or a squeeze of lemon otherwise.

Ta, mixed a bit of red wine with some white wine vinegar and turned out fine!
