fennel?

I hoping to cook a creamy pasta dish this evening and have tagliatelle, philadelphia, bacon, mushrooms and parmezan.

What can i use to make it really tasty? I was thinking of fennel, but I've never used it before and DH is not too good with anything very different.

Would it be nice to slice finely and cook in olive oil with the above?

Yes, - but if you don't like aniseed flavour don't use it!

I quite like it and I recently had a fritata with it in and it was a lovely delicate flavour which really enhance the dish. Not sure I would have such skill tho...
