Quick! How do I know if the eggs in my fridge are raw or hard boiled?

I can't remember.

Ds wants an egg.

If I try and peel a raw egg it will splat.

If I re-cook a boiled egg... does it matter?

assuming you have both types spin them on a hard surface - hard boiled will spin for much longer...

cornsillky · 28/08/2010 13:00

if you shake them really hard do you hear the raw egg swishing about?

YunoYurbubson · 28/08/2010 13:04

I am not sure if you are messing, but I have been shaking them and holding them to my ear. Nothing.

Tried spinning them too, but that was before I read your comment so I didn't know how to interpret the results Blush.

Soft boiled them anyway and they're dippy, so must have been raw.

I want a dippy egg now Hmm

YunoYurbubson · 28/08/2010 13:08

I never make them dippy enough according to my ungrateful wretch children.

Raw eggs float. Not sure if hard boiled do. Just bang it on the side of a glass as if it were a raw egg... then if it's hard boiled you will soon know.

YunoYurbubson · 28/08/2010 13:12

No, that's old eggs. Old eggs float and fresh ones sink. As they get older the air bubble at the bottom gets bigger.

Why would you have soft boiled eggs in your fridge??

nannynick · 28/08/2010 13:20

So does that mean a hard boiled egg still floats? Hmm, may have to do that as a science experiment with the children!

YunoYurbubson · 28/08/2010 13:21

Who has soft boiled eggs in their fridge?

In Europe you can buy preboiled eggs for picnics - they usually have brightly coloured shells

cornsillky · 29/08/2010 12:36

I still want a dippy egg.

taffetacatski · 29/08/2010 13:12

Hard boiled eggs are much heavier

TrillianAstra · 29/08/2010 13:36

Spin it, touch with finger to stop spinning, the let go. If it is liquid inside the liquid will stilll be moving so it will start moving again.

Hey, I was right
