Please tell me about your vegetable choppers...

Hi,

I am looking for a vegetable chopper mainly for dicing onions, mushrooms, carrots, etc.

I want something easy to use - have seen youtube videos of the slap and chop American thingy but cant see anything like that in the UK.

It should not be too big (don't want a large food processor) and should be fairly easy to clean - dismantle and into dishwasher.

Please could you tell me about the ones you use and also where I can buy them?

Thanks in advance!

I bought my Mum the alligator one from Selfridges as she was desperate for it (£20).
I'm sure it's ever seen the light of day., will ask though.

Not sure it's ever seen the light of day!

I want it now.

morag - Thanks! I noticed the Alligator one, was wondering if anyone thought it was any good :) The reviews are quite conflicting on Amazon!

It's expensive but I've heard good things about the Pampered Chef one, if they still do it.

Scootergrrrl · 28/08/2010 10:23

Pampered Chef do what I think would be described as a "slap and chop"' thingy - can't do links on my phone I'm afraid but google pampered chef chopper and you'll find it, no problem. I wouldn't get one of those alligator things if i was you - I don't think they're very good.

Thanks muminbeds and Scootergrrrl - I went on the website and have asked for a consultant to contact me. It does look good and very much like what I want :)

Buy frozen diced mushrooms and onions.

Cheaper and doesnt take up more room in the kitchen

Or marry a chef likeIdid and he will chop it for you with a sharp knife!! Grin

I've got a nicer dicer and it's fab! has different sized 'heads' for big dice or little dice. I'm left handed so find chopping things evenly very awkward.

I got it in woolworths when they were still around but I think it's a jml thing so would be available elsewhere.

akhems · 28/08/2010 11:18

Just looked at the alligator and it's very similar to what I have :)

JellyBellies · 28/08/2010 11:40

collision - i do buy frozen onions ;) usually use them when i am in a hurry! But i don't like the look of the frozen mushrooms, don't know why!

its a nicer dicer recomendation from me to.. don't get the small one though.. I think they're about £24

Frozen mushrooms are fine and have a really intense flavour.

Not all the time but fine for a casserole or meat sauce.

JellyBellies · 28/08/2010 12:12

akhems and magicmayhem - just looked at the nicer dicer video on the JML website, it does look good :) But i'm still a little partial to the pampered chef one if it does what it says, i like the fact that i can chop something while it is on the board as opposed to having to get it out of a box IYSWIM.

However if that doesn't work out, it will be my next option! :o
