Cake topper question

DD1 wants a chocolate cake for birthday and I have ordered a Charlie and Lola edible cake topper to go on it.

I had planned on using a chocolate butter icing on top but wanted to check if the colour from the icing might soak through and discolour the cake topper which has a white background. TIA

Pop the topper on at the very last minute when you do the candles and it will be fine as it will still stick in the buttercream.

Or use melted chocolate as a topping which will solidify - that shouldn't soak through.
