custard powder

I'm about to start baking the birthday custard sponge in nigella's feast. Can I use custard powder past its use by date or do I have to go and buy more?

i would use the one you have already got. how far out of date is it?

Over a year!

opened before or brand new? I would still be inclined to use it. These things go for years.

That's what I normally do but it's not for me so was unsure! Thanks

Maybe add a couple of drops of vanilla in case it's lost the flavour?
