A tin of condensed soup without MSG?

Does anyone know if you can get tins of condensed soup without MSG in them? I seem to be putting them in everything lately...

Have tried to Google it but am not getting very far - just thought this might be the sort of thing that someone would already know about.

Thanks!

I thought taste the difference soups in sainsburys don't contain msg, but don't know if those are condensed

does heinz tomato soup contain msg?

sunfunandmum · 19/08/2010 12:33

Ooh, I will have a look next time I am in Sainsbury's, thanks.

I do hope Heinz tomato soup doesn't contain it too seeing as for big chunks of my life I have practically lived on it.

Am now going to check all soup tins in cupboard!!

I noticed that as an awarness of impact of MSG grew fewer and fewer ready meals contain it

I stay clear from anything what on ingredients list has written - flavourings
I believe is their way to get round saying that it is MSG

if it isn't they list celery seeds etc as the source of flavourings amongst others

Does Campbells have MSG in?

sunfunandmum · 19/08/2010 18:33

I went on the Campbells website and they do seem to have an MSG free range. But it was an American website so I am not sure if you can get it here...

Will keep looking...

the rpoblem with MSG is you can get both natural and manufactured MSG.

iirc, only the manufactured one has to be labelled MSG - the natural MSG (obtained from pear skins, amongst other things!) is usually labelled "flavourings" or even "natural flavourings" - tis still MSG though.

MSG is the devils work. Gives me migraines.

sunfunandmum · 19/08/2010 22:47

Oh gawd.

silverfrog - re flavourings, that's why I am not buying those who say it without breaking them down into a list of ingredients

Phew, I don't think Heinz tomato soup has anything that bad in it (bit salty though). Whilst googling I found this website
www.goodguide.com/about
which looked quite interesting for anyone interested in this sort of thing. I didn't have time to explore much so it's not a recommendation, but it might be of use generally for someone.

I just checked the canned soup I have and the Campbells Tomato Rice doesn't have MS, but the Cheddar, Asparagus, Cream of Chicken and Cream of and Celery all do have MSG. (soup was on sale, we do not live out of cans, promise!)

I missed a G in MSG up there.
Yes, ds's doctor told us "natural flavour" is not natural and must be avoided. (migraine trigger for him)
