Dh wanted a fruit cake for his birthday cake but
he hates royal icing, ds really wants to decorate the cake so i need some kind of icing, so which would go best with fruit cake, glace icing or butter cream icing? Or would cream cheese and icing sugar (like on a carrot cake) work?

My MIL decorates with glace fruit (stuck/glazed with jam I think). Not sure if you would have the stuff in to do this though.

If not royal icing, then glace icing - not butter cream, don't think that works with a fruit cake, specially if it's a 'heavy' type one.

thanks for that, my mum said much the same, we're going to do a thin glace icing with some lemon juice tomorrow morning.
