How do I use Cinnamon Sticks when recipe requires ground cinnamon?

Hi

I have a recipe that requires ground cinnamon but only have cinnamon sticks. What can I do to the sticks so that I don't need to go out and buy the ground cinnamon? I'm in the middle of making the meal.

Depends what your cooking. Can you just put a stick in and then fish it out before serving? or else get the rolling pin out and start bashing!

Thanks for replying. I remembered I had a small garlic grate which did the trick.

I would just let it soak in the food and retrieve it before serving. The trick is putting in enough sticks to begin with, so it will depend on cooking time and the amount of food.
