White Pudding - Scottish vs Irish!!

I'm half Scottish and was brought with a all things Scottish - white pudding being one of my absolute favourites. I hate the fact that you can't get it down here! Yesterday in morrisons, we found some Irish white pudding so bought a couple thinking it would be the same - but it's totally different which really surprised me! (Well not totally but a fair bit different)

Which is your fav? Or do you think it's a case of what you've been brought up with?

Also - anyone in Scotland fancy sending some of the real stuff??!!

Hi swiperfox, just to let you know that Irish white pudding can differ wildly from brand to brand. How did the one you buy differ from Scottish white pudding?

swiperfox · 25/08/2005 10:14

It was pork - basically like a pork sausage with oats in.... although i realise that supermarkets don't make them anything like they are meaqnt to taste if black pudding and haggis is anything to go by!!

OMG - another white pudding fan!! I've never tried the Irish stuff. For me it has to be battered and deep fried from a proper chippy! Been away from Scotland for 5 years now and I miss them sooooooooooooo badly

swiperfox · 25/08/2005 10:26

Mmmmm battered white pudding and haggis..........

Ill never forget the first time I saw the Scottish co-op version of a mixed grill - black pudding, white pudding and haggis.

Gomez · 26/08/2005 12:02

'Tis on it's way Swiper - sent first class so you might be able to have it tomorrow. Butcher says remember to cook throughly. He vacummed packed them for me too so they should reach you in reasonable condition.

Enjoy!

SherlockLGJ · 29/08/2005 11:26

Can't believe that there is a versus thread

The only one worth having

IRISH

Laughs manically and departs ~~~~~~~~~~

swiperfox · 29/08/2005 12:05

Is the real one anything like the supermarket one?

OP posts:
SherlockLGJ · 29/08/2005 12:41

All joking aside, the only Irish one worth having IMHO is Clonakilty and you can't that here or least not that I am aware of.

So I tend to bring it back with me.

SherlockLGJ · 29/08/2005 12:42

I lied..........................

You can get it a Fortnum & Mason's dahling

Kidstrack2 · 29/08/2005 13:34

chipmonkey · 29/08/2005 21:28
