2yo DS SPITTING OUT FOOD

My DS has just turned 2 and for the last few months has been spitting out his food, especially fruit and veg. He's always been quite a good eater but now lives on fish, hummous, cheese, eggs, breadsticks, weetabix and if we're lucky, we can smuggle bits of avocado in! His diet is far from varied as he just stopped trying new things and went off all the healthy stuff he used to love like blueberries, cucumber and grapes. I don't make a big deal of it in front of him but I want to SCREAM when he's out of the room, especially when I've made him a meal that he won't eat. I know this is all probably quite normal but would appreciate any pearls of wisdom to stop me going maaaaaaad!

The key thing is to offer lavish praise at what a great little eater he is when he tries something new or finishes his meal. Lots of 'well dones' for getting it right, even if it just means licking or sniffing the new food. Alternate old favourites with new foods rather than making it something new every time. Only offer tiny amounts of something new to begin with... large amounts can be daunting.

It is normal for formerly 'eat anything types' to develop a fussy streak age 2. However, if you stay reasonably consistent and don't make a big deal of it then he'll come back around in due course. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with what he will eat btw.... he won't starve
