Food for adults at DD's 1st Birthday 'Party'

DD is 1 on Thursday, and we're having a little party from 4-6pm for family, including kids.

Seeing as it's tea time, and from past experience with them 'buffet' stuff usually always gets wasted, I was thinking of doing a proper meal for the kids that they can help themselves too (different components in different dishes so that they can help themselves), as well as yoghurt's, fruit, treats. That part is all sorted.

I was thinking of doing something for the adults too, I know they'll all eat, I just don't know what to do.

Nothing too fussy, something that will appeal to every one, help yourself sort of dish. Any ideas please?

For DD's birthday I did hot dogs. Very little washing up! Just put the sausages in the oven, then served them in a bun in a piece of kitchen roll with ketchup and mustard to help selves to.

It was fab, but it was in November and with fireworks and outdoorsiness so maybe doesn't fit with the style of your party. But just thought I'd share the idea.

WhatagradeA - It'd fit in if the weather sorted itself out, the original plan was to have a BBQ with all the trimmings, but I'm not sure many people would like rainwater as a garnish on their hotdogs

cat64 - sounds good, I was thinking of some sort of one pot dish with some nice bread/salad to go with it, just lacking inspiration and didn't want to serve up a normal boring casserole that I do during the week!

How about Fajitas. Seasoned chicken and peppers in a large bowl, then the wraps, sour cream guacamole, salsa some grated cheese and salad all out on a table to help themselves to.
We have done this a few times with the family and the kids love it to. Just used plain chicken and had a bowl of ketchup.
