dodgy mince?!

I've just had my shopping delivered (for the first time ever!)

and my beef mince looks funny?

It looked nice and red in the pack, but I always unpack it, split it out and freeze. One pack had a bit of brown on the underside, and the other was very brown on the inside (kind of like a reverse medium rare steak)

Is this ok to eat, or should I complain?!

You couldn't see any brown-ness until you opened each pack and took the mince out and turned it upside down and/or split it.

I'm 31 weeks pg btw, and always worried about meat - am I just paranoid? I know you see it on these cooking shows that well matured meat is brown, but I do get worried, after having a particularly bad case of food poisoning after cooking dodgy meat (I was only 15 at the time and didn't know better, but that mince was brown, and smelt funny.)

It's normal for minced beef to be a little darker on the outside than it is on the inside simply because that's the part the air has got to. But if it is 'very brown' on the inside that suggests that your mince has been repacked (the outside layer has ended up on the inside) and/or that it is old. I would send it back.

Mm, my thoughts too.

Phoned the store, and they're happy to replace, so will have to trundle over there later.

sigh
